Navigation in Cortona

Navigation Modes

With Cortona you can see and explore 3D worlds. There are two parts of the Cortona window:

The 3D window, which shows VRML world;

There are also pop-up menus, which commands you access by tapping the corresponding item below the 3D window.

There are three main navigation modes that Cortona offers: WALK, FLY and STUDY.
You can switch the navigation mode by choosing the navigation command from the Navigation menu.

To move around a 3D world:

Choose a navigation mode.

Touch and hold anywhere in the 3D window, then move the stylus.

The direction in which you drag the stylus determines the viewer motion.

Release the touch screen to stop moving.

If you'd like to examine an object, choose STUDY navigation mode.
In this case the viewer moves around the point on the object where you touch the screen.

Navigation Speed

The commands from the Speed menu specify the rate at which the viewer travels through a scene. By selecting this commands you can travel faster or slower. Please note that VRML authors have also an opportunity to control the navigation speed of a loaded world.

Using Viewpoints

The VRML author will probably want to guide the user to the best vantage points (viewpoints) for viewing it. Not all worlds contain viewpoints, but when they do, you can use them. To activate a viewpoint, tap the Viewpoint and select a viewpoint from list.

Cortona provides mechanisms that can help to re-orient a viewer if you have lost your way in a world.
Use RESTORE to automatically return to the loaded world's original active viewpoint.

Additional Commands

The commands from the Tools menu give you an opportunity to view general information about Pocket Cortona, control whether the frame rate is shown on the title bar, and control headlight. Cortona automatically includes a light for the viewer in every world. The headlight always shines directly in front of the camera. To switch the headlight off, clear Headlight from the Tools menu.
